Abstract

The construction industry faces mounting challenges in managing construction and demolition (C&D) waste, which places pressure on landfills and depletes natural resources. This study evaluates the potential of Recycled Coarse Aggregate (RCA), sourced from crushed road pavements, as a full replacement for Natural Coarse Aggregate (NCA) in concrete. Using an ACI design mix and two-phase analysis, concrete samples incorporating 100% RCA (19 mm nominal size) were tested for flexural strength. Results indicate that RCA achieves comparable strength to NCA, demonstrating its viability for structural applications, particularly in road construction. This research contributes to sustainable construction by providing evidence that RCA can reduce reliance on natural aggregates and mitigate C&D waste, offering a practical pathway toward more environmentally responsible infrastructure development.
